Unity in Our Community: Fire Prevention Week, 2018

On October 12, 2018, Lakewood Elementary students were among local heroes who were teaching them about fire safety and prevention. Lake Odessa Fire Chief Sanderson and his courageous crew of firefighters were on site to educate Lakewood students about what to do, and what not to do in the event of fire. They addressed the topics of smoke detectors, family evacuation plans, and prevention. Some kids become scared by the sight or sounds of a firefighter in their gear and oxygen mask. So local firefighters speak first to our students, then demonstrate the equipment they use in a comfortable way. These lessons help young children see that there is nothing to be afraid of and that firefighters are here to help them, and their family. Lakewood Public Schools is fortunate to build strong community partnerships that support students and families. These Vikings can add Junior Firefighters to their school experience. Thank you, to all of our local first responders for keeping Lakewood safe!
