Ms. Doran’s Students Lend a Hand to Fill Christmas Baskets for Local Families

Ms. Doran’s high school students dedicated time to community service by helping fill the annual Christmas Baskets at Living Gospel Church. We are so proud of our students who embodied the spirit of giving through this work. Ms. Doran understands that serving others profoundly impacts young people by building empathy, responsibility, and a deep sense of community. We are grateful for her work to connect our students with experiences that are vital to their development as compassionate and engaged citizens. While working hard to prepare the baskets for families, students enjoyed a well-deserved break and some delicious lunch generously provided by Penny's Pizza in Lake Odessa. We extend our sincere gratitude to Penny and Jim for their wonderful support of our students and the community effort. THIS IS LAKEWOOD!

AIS Partnership Fuels Career Readiness for Students Exploring Technical Trades

Mr. King’s middle school Green School class gained valuable career exposure by visiting the AIS Training Center in Lansing. Students received immersive instruction focused on heavy equipment operation, repair, and essential safety protocols, giving them practical, real-world skills and an insightful look into the mechanics and engineering fields. This powerful, high-impact learning experience moved our students beyond classroom understanding to tangible, career-ready skills. We think our students developed a deep appreciation for the precision and safety required in these technical skills. It is crucial that we inspire and equip students to enter the skilled trades industry, which offers high-demand, high-value careers. We extend our sincere thanks to our dedicated community partners at the AIS Training Center for generously providing a space where our young people build a better understanding of the heavy equipment industry through these tailored training programs.

The Lakewood Board of Education honored the December Circle of Excellence inductees at its official meeting on December 8th. The Lakewood Circle of Excellence is an honorary which recognizes students who demonstrate a positive attitude toward learning and a willingness to work hard to achieve excellence. Wishing Bev McClintock a Happy Retirement after 14 Years of Service and Friendship - After 14 dedicated years of service, we are bidding a fond farewell to Bev McClintock as she retires from our school food service department. More than just a familiar face in the cafeteria, Bev has been a true friend to all, serving generations of students at both the middle school and elementary, with a smile and ensuring they were well-nourished and ready to learn. Her kindness and commitment have left a lasting mark on our school community, and she will be deeply missed by students and staff alike. At a retirement celebration thrown by her colleagues and pals, Bev shared, “I am really going to miss this work, I love my job.” She is looking forward to spending more time with her grandchildren and family. We thank you, Bev, for your years of hard work and wish you nothing but the very best in this next exciting chapter of your life!

Announcing the 1st Place Winner in the Christmas Parade - Lakewood Transportation Team drove home the Holiday Spirit!
Our festive school bus stole the show this year, taking 1st place with an impressive 264 votes in the community Christmas parade! We want to give a huge shout-out to our incredible transportation team for their hard work in decking the bus out with dazzling holiday lights and decor, and for spreading extra cheer by passing out candy to all the smiling faces along the route. We are so proud of our drivers and the entire transportation team for serving our students and community. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to support us and joined in the holiday spirit!

LPS staff are engaged in professional learning across the district today! From Capturing Kids' Hearts 2 training at LES and LMS to Ukeru training for various district staff to MTSS/AI learning at LHS, the topics being covered are robust, timely, and relevant. Go Vikings!

LECC and LES teachers came together today for Power Up: Transitioning from Eureka Math to Eureka Math 2, an interactive day of professional learning. Bring on the first day of school - we are ready! Go Vikings!

A huge shout out to Mrs. Palazzolo and the Student Council for leading the charge and making this year’s Vikings on the Run 5K an incredible success! The Lakewood High School Student Council hit their goal by bringing families from all across the community together to support student-led projects and activities.

Thanks to everyone’s participation and generosity, the money raised will help fund: pep assemblies, homecoming events, blood drives, teacher appreciation, student recognition, and many more activities that keep our Viking pride strong! Go Vikings!

Director of Special Education, Jenny Richardson, led District crisis teams through Ukeru training in the high school media center. Ukeru, a trauma-informed approach to crisis intervention and behavior management, equips staff to better support student needs. We are very thankful for our staff who step into this important role. Our middle school math team was hard at work yesterday doing a deep dive into their new curriculum. Focused on vertical and horizontal alignment, the team spent the day engaged in on-demand learning and creating continuity across the grades. Go Vikings!

LPS building crisis team members, bus drivers, and coaches came together this morning for CPR/First-Aid training provided by Corewell Health. Thank you to Emily Flessner and her team for spending the morning with us! One step closer to preparing for the new school year. Go Vikings!
