National Honor Society

  • One of the National Honor Society's primary functions is to serve the school and the community. Students will be expected to participate in such activities as tutoring, Adopt-a-Highway trash pick up, School conferences, and other service opportunities which the NHS chooses to support whenever you can.  Most requests for assistance which we receive represent opportunities which are enjoyable as well as worthwhile: for example, helping at math nights and school carnivals, wrapping Christmas baskets, serving at a senior citizen luncheon, or watching kids during elementary school parent events.  In past years, all members have been expected to donate a minimum of 15 hours a year to school/community service.  Five of these hours can be done through other community or school organizations, and ten must be done as part of specific NHS service opportunities.

  • National Honor Society Eligibility

Eligibility for membership in the National Honor Society begins with students' Grade Point Average.  Maintaining a 3.5 GPA is required after your acceptance as well.  If your GPA drops below a 3.5, you will be placed on academic probation. If it continues below, you will lose the privilege of wearing the NHS sash at graduation and your membership could be terminated. Other occurrences that preclude membership are any suspensions on record at the high school level, and any referrals to the RTR for academic dishonesty during the high school years.
