I have so many mixed emotions and thoughts regarding the current situation we are in. If your family needs assistance in anyway please do not hesitate to e-mail or message me on Class Dojo. I know it is not always easy to ask for help, but I want you to know that I am here for you, and I honestly mean that.
My biggest recommendation when it comes to home-schooling, set a schedule. It doesn't need to be jammed pack, just have a schedule. I promise it makes a world of difference. The biggest thing that you can give your children right now is your time and attention. Let them know that their feelings are valid. Teach them fractions by cooking with them, practice measurement by estimating the length of your driveway, read with your kiddo, ask them about their reading, go on a nature walk, but most importantly cherish this time you have. As difficult as this time may be I feel it is a great opportunity for us to connect with our children.
That being said, we are closing in on our first week of Distance Learning and I wanted you be aware of some of the things as we move forward. Hardcopy packets will be available at each student's school building on April 20 and May 11 (A.M. Pickup - 8:30-11:30 a.m. and P.M. Pickup - 2:00-6:00 P.M.). I have included the packets in their belongings from their general education teacher.
Packet #1 is due May 11
Packet #2 is due June 2
I know that the packets may seem overwhelming at first, the last thing I want is for anyone to get frustrated so feel free to skip around and if something seems too difficult, skip it.
- NOTE: teachers may develop alternative methods to retrieve work (photos sent, PDF work and email, call, Zoom, etc.)
Packets are BIG! Please don't be intimidated, we are working through finding a "happy medium"as this is brand new to us as well. Please be flexible and encourage your student to do whatever they can do and help as you feel you can.My advice to is to not treat these days like normal school days. Take breaks, go outside, play a game....These times are not normal,so remember that your child will need breaks and so will you! :) Please try not to stress out about the work and have some fun too!
I will be available by email, Dojo, or zoom meetings. Please don't hesitate to reach out for anything - I WANT to help and miss my students more than anything.
